Skincare That Meets You Where You Are

September is Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month, and it felt like the right moment to talk about a part of our practice that doesn't always make it onto the service menu: oncology-safe skincare.

If you or someone you love is navigating cancer treatment, recovery, or survivorship, skin often needs a different kind of care than it used to. Chemotherapy, radiation, and other treatments can leave skin more sensitive, drier, or more reactive than before. That doesn't mean skincare or gentle touch are off the table — it means they need to be handled by someone trained to adapt.

Heather is a Preferred Practitioner with the Society for Oncology Esthetics (S4OE), which means she's completed specialized training in safely adjusting products, pressure, and technique for clients affected by cancer — no matter the type, the stage, or how long ago treatment ended.

What "Oncology-Safe" Actually Means

Oncology-safe skincare isn't a treatment for cancer, and it isn't medical care. It's esthetic care adapted with real training behind it. In practice, that looks like:

  • Reviewing health history and current treatment status before recommending anything

  • Choosing gentler, fragrance-conscious products for more reactive skin

  • Adjusting pressure and technique around sensitive or compromised skin

  • Knowing when to modify or skip a step entirely

  • Coordinating with your care team when a service calls for it

Every client's situation is different, which is why this always starts with a conversation, not a standard menu item.

Who This Is For

This isn't limited to any one diagnosis or stage. Clients come to us during active treatment, in the months after, or years into survivorship — some just want a little normalcy back, others are dealing with skin changes they didn't expect. All of it is welcome here, without judgment and without having to explain more than you want to.

Let's Talk Before We Book Anything

If you're considering a facial or skincare service and have a current or past cancer diagnosis, we'd rather start with a short consultation than guess. We'll ask about treatment history, check in with any restrictions your care team has given you, and build a plan around what's actually safe for you right now.

FAQ

What does "oncology-safe" skincare actually mean?
Specialized training in adapting products and technique for clients affected by cancer — different products, different pressure, and the judgment to know when to modify or skip a step. It's not a medical treatment.

Do I need my doctor's approval before booking?
If you're in active treatment, we'd recommend checking with your care team first, especially around timing and any specific restrictions. We're glad to work from whatever guidance they've given you.

Is this only for people currently in treatment?
No. We see clients at every stage — during treatment, shortly after, and years into survivorship. If your skin has changed and you're not sure what's still comfortable, that's exactly what the consultation is for.

Will this treat any skin side effects from cancer treatment?
No — oncology-safe skincare is comfort- and dignity-focused esthetic care, not a medical treatment. For anything related to diagnosis, treatment side effects, or medication interactions, your oncology or dermatology team is the right resource.
